The fresh outbreak occurred just hours after the Plateau State government partially lifted the 48-hour curfew imposed following Sunday’s deadly attack on the community by suspected gunmen dressed in military uniforms.

Tension returned to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Wednesday, as residents engaged in violent clashes that left several dead and others critically injured.

The fresh outbreak occurred just hours after the Plateau State government partially lifted the 48-hour curfew imposed following Sunday’s deadly attack on the community by suspected gunmen dressed in military uniforms.

Under Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s directive, the curfew now runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., allowing residents to carry out lawful activities while security forces maintain a presence in the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the violence began early Wednesday at the Anguwan Rukuba junction near UNA Primary School, where angry youths armed with sticks, machetes, and other weapons attacked residents.

Stones were thrown into homes, forcing terrified families to flee.
One resident, speaking to journalists on condition of anonymity, said: “Urgent security attention is needed. As I speak, youths are carrying weapons and attacking anyone they see.

People are running into their houses, screaming for help. The fear is unbearable.”
The army was eventually deployed, helping to ease some of the tension. However, one of the injured, Alkasim Umar, later died in the hospital. Another resident mourned: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un.

Alkasim was a kind man, now gone. We need lasting peace in this community. Enough blood has been shed.”

Community leaders and residents criticized the state government, claiming the partial curfew was lifted without adequate security arrangements.

Security forces were later seen recovering bodies and tending to injured victims across the community.

The renewed clashes are linked to Sunday evening’s attack, when suspected terrorists in military uniforms stormed Anguwan Rukuba and opened fire on residents.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and panic.
