Iortyom told journalists on Saturday that the attack occurred on George Akume Way, in the heart of Makurdi, the state capital

Suspected thugs on Friday night attacked the newly appointed Benue State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) media consultant, Bemgba Iortyom, barely 24 hours after his appointment was announced by the state PDP Secretary, Mr Dan Nyikwagh.
Iortyom told journalists on Saturday that the attack occurred on George Akume Way, in the heart of Makurdi, the state capital.
“I was attacked by unknown persons, and though I escaped, my Peugeot 406 Saloon was set on fire and completely burnt,” he said.
He described the assailants as five men riding two motorcycles. “I was pulling off the road to park and make a phone call when they blocked my path.
Armed with short axes, they descended on me. I thank God for quick thinking, which enabled me to open the car door and run to safety before they poured fuel on my car and set it ablaze,” Iortyom said.
He added that bystanders only urged him to flee as the incident unfolded swiftly. “The whole ordeal was very quick. My shouts for help went unanswered,” he said.
Iortyom has reported the matter to the police, and investigations are ongoing.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed the report, saying, “Since the victim has reported to the police, allow the police to go on with their investigation.”
