Tambuwal announced his resignation in a letter addressed to his PDP ward chairman on Wednesday, stating that his decision takes immediate effect.

Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the party’s lingering internal crisis.
Tambuwal announced his resignation in a letter addressed to his PDP ward chairman on Wednesday, stating that his decision takes immediate effect.
“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from today,” the letter read.
The former governor said persistent internal conflicts, leadership disagreements and divisions across various levels of the party made it difficult for him to continue his active participation and commitment.
“The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, worsened the unity and direction that once defined the party,” he stated.
Meanwhile, in a statement posted on X on Thursday, Tambuwal confirmed that he had officially joined the ADC alongside his associates and supporters.
He said the decision was guided by his belief that Nigeria requires a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness and a clear commitment to national development.
“I remain fully committed to the service of our country and to the ideals of democracy, justice and national unity,” Tambuwal added.
