The incident occurred during what was described as a coordinated show-of-force activity

A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died after she was hit by one of the agency’s operational vehicles during a simulation exercise in Abuja.

The incident occurred during what was described as a coordinated show-of-force activity.

Footage circulating on social media shows the moment the officer was knocked down and run over by a patrol vehicle while it was making a turn.

The vehicle later stopped as colleagues and other persons at the scene rushed to lift it and pull her out.

Emergency responders arrived shortly afterwards and evacuated her from the scene.

Confirming the development on Saturday, NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, told The Cable that the corps lost a personnel during the exercise.

“It is true we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are on their way to the residence of the deceased to pay our condolences,” he said.

He added that the agency had commenced internal processes and would issue a detailed statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and the steps being taken.
