Troops of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully rescued eight of the ten people abducted during a wedding in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State.
According to a reliable Army Headquarters source who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, the assailants—reportedly dressed in military camouflage—stormed the ceremony on Wednesday and kidnapped the victims.
Troops stationed along the Yankwada River quickly responded to the distress call and intercepted the fleeing gunmen at Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State.
The source added that the pursuit continued along the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before contact with the attackers was lost.
“Eight of the kidnapped girls have been rescued and reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining two,” the source said.
Military operations are continuing in the area to ensure the safe recovery of the remaining victims and prevent further attacks.
