The Israeli military has launched a series of attacks on southern Lebanon, killing one person, Lebanese authorities said, while Israel said the strikes targeted a Hezbollah fighter and related infrastructure.
The attacks on Sunday came just days after the Lebanese army announced it had completed the disarmament of Hezbollah forces south of the Litani River as part of the first phase of a broader national plan. Israel, however, has said those measures do not go far enough.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said an Israeli strike on a vehicle in the southern city of Bint Jbeil killed one civilian.
The Israeli military said the attack targeted a Hezbollah member, accusing the group of violating a ceasefire agreement reached in late 2024 to end more than a year of hostilities.
In a statement, the army said it carried out the strike in response to what it described as Hezbollah’s continued breaches of the truce, adding that it had hit “a Hezbollah terrorist” in the Bint Jbeil area.
Elsewhere, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes carried out more than 10 air raids on the town of Kfar Hatta, north of the Litani River, causing significant damage to buildings.
The Israeli military had earlier issued an evacuation warning for Kfar Hatta and later said it was targeting Hezbollah infrastructure at several locations.
It also reported a separate strike on what it described as an underground Hezbollah weapons storage facility.
Lebanon’s military has said it will continue efforts to bring weapons held by non-state groups under state control.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the ceasefire agreement “clearly states that Hezbollah must be fully disarmed.”
The statement added that steps taken so far by the Lebanese government and armed forces were “an encouraging beginning” but remained inadequate, accusing Hezbollah of attempting to rearm and rebuild its military infrastructure with support from Iran.
Hezbollah, however, has repeatedly rejected calls to disarm, arguing that Israel continues to violate the terms of the ceasefire agreement.
