El‑Rufai made the announcement during his registration as an ADC member, signalling a consolidation of coalition strategies ahead of the next general elections

Former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El‑Rufai has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pledging to send President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) packing in 2027.

El‑Rufai made the announcement during his registration as an ADC member, signalling a consolidation of coalition strategies ahead of the next general elections.

He explained that he and former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had requested the coalition’s indulgence to remain in their respective parties until the conclusion of by-elections and out-of-season elections.

“Accordingly, Mr. Peter and I requested the indulgence of the coalition to allow us to remain in our respective parties until the conclusion of these by elections and out of season elections,” he said.

El‑Rufai added, “I’m happy to announce that as at last week, all these elections have been concluded and for that reason, we have no reason any longer to remain in the SDP (Social Democratic Party) or the Labour Party. By the grace of God, along with other partners, we are going to repeat what we did in 2015 when we got rid of the incompetent thieving, stealing and the corrupt PDP administration.”

Speaking to senior party officials present, including ADC national vice chairman Northwest Hon. Jafaru Sani and membership secretary Senator Sadik Erada, El‑Rufai expressed gratitude for their role in facilitating his registration.

“I want to start by thanking and appreciating the national vice chairman Northwest of the ADC, Hon. Jafaru Sani, the membership secretary of the ADC, Senator Sadik Erada, and all the senior leaders of the party that are present here,” he said.

“I didn’t want to list all of them because we spent a long time here. I want to thank all of you for assembling here at a very short notice to witness my enrolling as a bona fide member of the African Democratic Congress,” he added.

El‑Rufai explained his departure from the APC and his initial move to the SDP, saying he had hoped the party would accommodate the coalition leadership but was disappointed.

“As you know, when I left the APC in March 2025, I joined the Social Democratic Party with the hope that the SDP will be the vehicle that the coalition partners will go into,” he said.

He lamented the compromise of some SDP leaders, contrasting it with ADC’s readiness to host the coalition.

“Unfortunately, because the government has driven and compromised some of the leaders, the SDP would not accept to open up for the coalition leadership to come into the party. Happily, the ADC agreed to the terms and conditions of the coalition leadership and on the 2nd of July, we adopted the ADC at the coalition platform,” he explained.

El‑Rufai announced his registration number, noting that Hon. Jafaru Sani had been the first to register. He then called on Kaduna residents aged 18 and above to join the ADC and prepare to vote out the current government.

“The current government in Kaduna state is led by people that have no name, no address, no surname to protect and therefore they think the purpose of being in government is to steal and divert public funds,” he said.

He concluded by urging citizens to register with the ADC and obtain their permanent voters card in preparation for 2027.

“So I want to call on all the people of Kaduna State who knows what we did in our 8 years and can compare with what is going on now to come out and mass register with the ADC and get their permanent voter cards and prepare to vote out this incompetent cast and useless people pretending to be a government,” he added.
