Dr. Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a strong warning following the visit of Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi to Ibadan on Wednesday, 19th November 2025. Gumi reportedly visited the Oyo State capital to attend an Islamic event alongside a delegation of Southern Muslim scholars.
In attendance were notable figures such as Baba Ibi Oju Lade Yi of Iwo, the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland, Sheikh Daood appointed by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi as well as Sheikh Imran Eleha, Barrister Shittu, and several other Islamic leaders.
Reacting to the development, Igboho expressed deep concern over Gumi’s presence in Ibadan, alleging that such a visit could pose a potential security threat to the city and Oyo State as a whole. He cautioned that no harm must come to any person, property, or community in Ibadan, stressing that any incident linked to extremism or violence would not be tolerated.
According to Igboho, the people of Ibadan and the wider Oyo region “must not experience any form of unrest or destruction” that could be associated with what he described as Gumi’s controversial engagements elsewhere in the country. He warned that anyone responsible for destabilizing the peace of the state should be prepared to face the consequences.
Igboho also called on all Southwest governors, with particular emphasis on Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, to heighten security measures in vulnerable communities—especially rural areas where clashes involving criminal herdsmen have previously occurred.
He urged Yoruba sons and daughters to stand united, as dictated by the region’s cultural values of solidarity and protection of ancestral lands. Igboho emphasized the need to resist violent criminal elements and defend the integrity of Yoruba territories from those he described as “terrorist groups troubling our borders.”
The activist reaffirmed that the peace and safety of residents across Ibadan and the entire Southwest must remain a top priority.
