Abuja – Leaders of the organised labour, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have accepted the N70,000 ($43) minimum wage offered by the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government.

The Federal Government, in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, announced N70,000 as the minimum wage on Thursday.

He said Tinubu also promised  to help the private sector and sub-national entities meet the minimum wage requirement.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information, had told State House correspondents that the president announced the offer at a meeting with the labour leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Thursday.

Speaking after the meeting, Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of NLC said the unions had accepted the offer.

Surrounded by Comrade Festus Osifo, President of TUC and other representatives of Nigerian workers, who attended the meeting, Comrade Ajaero revealed that the unions agreed to the offer because of other incentives attached.

He said another reason for accepting the offer was because the president promised a review every three years as against what obtained in the past.

The labour leaders had in June, stated that they would not accept less than N250,000 minimum wage.
