The Jigawa State government has mandated that female security operatives in the state wear hijabs as part of their official attire while on duty.
This decision was announced in a recent statement by the state government, directing private security firms to allow their female staff to wear hijabs while working.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa, during a briefing on the resolutions of the State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday evening at the Press Gallery, Government House in Dutse.
Musa explained that the move is aimed at creating a more inclusive environment for all citizens, particularly women, and allowing female security operatives to practice their religious and cultural beliefs freely.
He noted, “By allowing female security operatives to wear hijabs, the government is empowering them to practice their faith without restriction, which will boost their morale and confidence.”
The directive follows a report by the Council Committee on Schools, Hospital, and Court Security.
According to Musa, the decision applies to the 9,969 young people recently recruited by private security companies in the state, making the wearing of hijabs a matter of religious and cultural accommodation.
“This policy reaffirms the administration’s commitment to workplace policies that respect modesty, inclusion, and dignity,” he added.
In addition, the commissioner disclosed that the state government had approved the release of N516.1 million for the purchase of 184 return and one-way tickets for 185 Jigawa students studying medical and applied medical courses at Near East University, Cyprus.
He emphasized that this intervention supports the education and welfare of Jigawa’s students abroad, particularly in vital fields like medicine and healthcare.
Musa also highlighted the approval for the inauguration of the Jigawa State Creativity and Innovation Week (JISCIW) in 2025.
This initiative, according to the commissioner, will promote innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among the youth, with a focus on fields such as technology, design, and the arts.
The week will serve as a platform to showcase and support creative talents across the state.
In conclusion, the commissioner reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering a vibrant spirit of creativity and innovation in Jigawa.
