The incident happened on Tuesday at Dogon Ruwa village in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at about 4:36 p.m.
One of the vigilantes, Barnabas Issac, told Daily Trust newspaper that the gunmen attempted to invade a Fulani settlement at Dogon Ruwa village when the vigilantes swiftly engaged them in a gun duel.
He added the bandits were in their large numbers with some of them wearing army uniforms and carrying AK47 rifles.
