IKEJA – An electricity distribution company in Nigeria’s Lagos was on Thursday morning, invaded by armed men in military uniform, with workers assaulted.
The armed men in military uniform invaded the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, opposite MITV in Ikeja, Lagos, at about 7:40 am on Thursday.
As of the time of filing this report, staff and other persons found in the office are being beaten by the armed officers.
The reason for the attack could not be ascertained.
Police and army authorities in the state could not be reached for comment, but police officers have reportedly intervened.
IKEDC’s spokesman Kingsley Okotie said the Nigerian Air Force personnel vandalised the company’s office, “assaulted” staff members, and made away with several company assets.
“It happened this morning from the Nigerian Air Force, Sam Ethnan Barracks, Ikeja. They are owing us over N4 billion, they were disconnected, and this is what we got,” Okotie told The Cable news outlet.
“They came, they invaded our offices, our CHQ. As I speak with you now, I have a fractured leg. They molested and assaulted our staff. They went away with about 16 of our vehicles with our drivers driving them at one point.
“They destroyed all our offices, stole laptops, phones, destroyed all our IT infrastructure, blinded all the cameras CCTV.
“Luckily, they couldn’t arrest the CEO, but they were looking vehemently for her.”
In videos and photos seen by KOIKI Media, printers, closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, and other equipment were damaged.
