Nigeria’s Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, OYRTMA, has deployed operatives across the southwestern state for seamless traffic management, safety, orderliness and prompt rescue/emergency services on 24hrs basis on all major traffic corridors.
No fewer than 450 personnel, 75 Marshals, and 65, as well as 5 light tow trucks and 3 articulated tow trucks were deployed at strategic locations for quick removal of any sorts of breakdown on the road, according to a statement by the agency during and after the Christmas and New Year Celebrations, in line with the operational guidelines of the Yuletide Special Patrol Schedule.
The exercise commenced on Friday, 20 December 2024 and would end on Sunday, 15 January 2025., according to a release from the office of the OYRTMA Executive Chairman /Chief Executive, Maj Adesagba Adekoya Rtd.
The special patrol operation order would involve monitoring of motorists and other road users, inclusive of high and low capacity vehicles for safety of lives and property to be guaranteed on all our roads / major traffic corridors including residents and those on transit via *Lagos / Ibadan Expressway, Apata / Omi / Abeokuta axis, Challenge/Dugbe/ Mokola U.I axis, Ojoo / Moniya / Akinyele / Oyo Expressway, Sango/ Eleyele/ Alesinloye axis,, Iwo Road Interchange/ Monatan / Olodo axis, Molete / Bere / Gate Bashorun / Akobo axis, Oyo / Owode/ Oja axis, Ogbomosho / Takkie/ Oja axis.. Iseyin / Saki / Sango / oja axis, and all major junctions in the metropolis.*
The agency said the exercise would involve synergy with other sisters road safety and security agencies in the state, all road users, OYRTMA Marshals and the Community Based Traffic Management Scheme, (OYRTMA MAYORS), noting that “safety on our roads is a shared responsibility.”
Zonal and Unit Commanders across the state were directed to ensure that OYRTMA operatives are presentable, civil, professional, fair and firm, where and when the need arises, in the discharge of their duties, for the safety of the general public, particularly the motoring public.
While felicitating with the Christendom, OYRTMA chief, Maj. Adesagba Adekoya Rtd, admonished them to be law abiding, safety conscious, observe strict adherence to traffic rules and avoid chaos that may degenerate into mayhem, in view of its attendant consequences because any vehicle contravened for any traffic infraction(s) during the celebrations would not be released until Monday, 6th January 2025, and would face Road Traffic Offences tribunal.
