Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised the alarm that there is a plot to cancel his highly anticipated December concert in Nigeria, after the singer’s comments on the country’s economy situation became controversial.
Davido had stirred a debate during an appearance on the American podcast, Big Homies House, where he advised Americans against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, saying “Nigeria’s economy is in shambles.”
This triggered a wave of criticism from Nigerians both at home and abroad, with several people accusing him of damaging Nigeria’s global reputation.
In response to the criticism, Davido defended himself, asserting that entertainers like him are the country’s “real ambassadors.”
“Y’all mad ‘cause we the real ambassadors!,” he wrote on social media platform X.
However, the singer revealed that the controversy has escalated further, with threats to cancel his upcoming show in the country’s commercial hub Lagos.
“Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria,” he posted on X.
