Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that he has politically parted ways with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike said he would back a candidate he trusts to succeed Fubara, insisting he would not repeat what he described as the mistakes of the 2023 election.

Speaking to supporters over the weekend in Ahoada Local Government Area, the former Rivers State governor claimed that previous agreements with Fubara had been violated, making further political cooperation impossible.

“We will not make the mistake we made in 2023,” Wike declared, adding that no one would dictate political decisions to him in Rivers State.

He also dismissed suggestions that slogans, rallies, or public chants alone could secure any aspirant an electoral ticket.

Wike clarified that while he openly supports President Bola Tinubu for a second term, this does not equate to backing Fubara’s re-election.

He said his support for Tinubu stems from what he described as the president’s goodwill toward Rivers State, including his own appointment as FCT minister.

“Politics is about interest. I will support a candidate I can rely on and sleep with my eyes closed,” Wike said, stressing that future political decisions in the state would be guided strictly by trust and interest.
