The woman from the Netherlands, whose husband also died from the virus aboard a cruise ship currently stranded off Cape Verde, left the vessel on Saint Helena on April 24 while experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms.

On Tuesday, the World Health Organization said it is working to identify and contact passengers on a flight from Saint Helena to Johannesburg after a cruise ship passenger who tested positive for hantavirus died.

The woman from the Netherlands, whose husband also died from the virus aboard a cruise ship currently stranded off Cape Verde, left the vessel on Saint Helena on April 24 while experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms.

According to the WHO, her condition worsened during the flight to Johannesburg, where she died on April 26.

The agency added that contact tracing for everyone on board the flight has begun.
