The incident occurred during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in the city, amid heightened tension over immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump’s administration.

An American woman, Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot dead by a US immigration officer on the streets of Minneapolis on Wednesday, triggering mass protests and outrage from local leaders who rejected White House claims that she was a domestic terrorist.

The incident occurred during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in the city, amid heightened tension over immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Local media identified the victim as Good, who was hit at point-blank range as she allegedly attempted to drive away from federal agents surrounding her vehicle, which they said was blocking their path.

Video footage circulating online shows a masked ICE agent firing three shots into a Honda SUV.

The vehicle then veered out of control and crashed into parked cars as shocked bystanders shouted at the officers.

Good’s bloodied body was later seen slumped inside the wrecked car.

The Trump administration swiftly claimed that Good had attempted to kill the agents involved.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey dismissed the allegation as “bullshit” and called on ICE to leave the city.

Thousands of protesters poured onto the icy streets of Minneapolis following the shooting.

Many held placards reading “ICE out of MPLS,” using a common abbreviation for the city.

ICE agents have been central to the administration’s aggressive deportation campaign, despite resistance from several local governments.

Last summer, the Department of Homeland Security launched a recruitment drive to add 10,000 new ICE agents to its existing force of about 6,000 officers.

The move drew criticism amid concerns that many new recruits lacked adequate training.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said “any loss of life is a tragedy” but described the incident as “domestic terrorism.”

She alleged that Good had been stalking and obstructing ICE agents throughout the day.

“She then proceeded to weaponize her vehicle,” Noem said.

The shooting happened during protests against immigration enforcement in southern Minneapolis, in the midwestern state of Minnesota.

In a post on X, the Department of Homeland Security claimed the victim attempted to run over an officer, who responded by firing “defensive shots.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the federal government’s response, describing it as “propaganda.”

He pledged that the state would ensure a “full, fair, and expeditious investigation” into the incident.

Witness Brandon Hewitt said he heard three gunshots.

“I got a bunch of video of them carrying the body to the ambulance,” he told MS NOW.

Another witness, speaking to local station FOX9, described the aftermath as gruesome.

“The surviving passenger got out of the car covered in blood,” the witness said.

He added that a man who identified himself as a doctor tried to reach Good but was prevented from doing so by officers.

Protests against ICE operations have intensified nationwide as the Trump administration pushes ahead with plans to arrest and deport what it says are millions of undocumented migrants.

The DHS blamed the unrest on what it described as the “constant attacks and demonization of our officers.”

Noem said the officer who fired the fatal shots had previously been rammed and dragged along a road by an anti-ICE protester in June.

Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, told the Minnesota Star Tribune that her daughter “was probably terrified.”

She said Good was “not part of anything like” confronting ICE officers.

Immigration control has remained a central focus of Trump’s second term, with stricter rules introduced for entry into the United States and visa approvals.

Critics accuse ICE of becoming increasingly paramilitary in nature under the current administration.

Federal authorities said as many as 2,000 officers were deployed to Minneapolis for immigration sweeps.

In a related incident, a US immigration enforcement officer shot and killed an undocumented immigrant in Chicago last September, after officials alleged the man tried to evade arrest by driving his car into officers.
