About 20 suspected armed thugs have attacked the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Comrade Adetunji Adene, leaving him critically injured.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, May 4, 2026, shortly after Adene returned from an official assignment in Akure, when the attackers stormed his residence and allegedly attempted to harm him.
Eyewitnesses said the operation was disrupted after family members and neighbours raised an alarm, forcing the assailants to flee the scene.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Adene sustained severe injuries during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he is said to be in critical condition.
The Chairman of NULGE in the state, Comrade Fredrick Akinrinlola, condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on the union and the local government system.
In a statement, Akinrinlola said the incident reflects a growing pattern of violence targeting union leaders and workers in Owo Local Government Area.
“I stand before you this Monday, May 4, 2026, to sound the alarm loud and clear. A vicious wave of violence is ravaging our union leadership in Owo Local Government Area, and we will not stand idly by.
“On behalf of the leadership and our entire members, we categorically condemn the barbaric attack on our Owo Branch Chairman, Comrade Adetunji Adene – an outrage that threatens the very foundation of our local government system,” he said.
