Heightened security concerns have emerged following the abduction of two staff members of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC), raising fresh fears about the safety of essential service workers in the field.
The employees were kidnapped on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, while carrying out official duties in the Ogunmakin area along the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road, according to a statement from the company’s management.
IBEDC said the workers were “whisked away” by unidentified gunmen during the assignment, leaving colleagues and their families deeply distressed.
“We are deeply concerned about this situation, and our thoughts are with our colleagues and their families at this difficult time,” the company said.
The firm, which distributes electricity across several states in southwestern Nigeria, added that it has taken immediate action by working with security agencies to secure the safe release of the abducted staff.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of the country and underscores the risks faced by workers responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure, as efforts continue to ensure the victims’ safe return.
