The blast sent smoke rising over the area shortly after Israel issued an evacuation warning for the site

Israel struck a building in Bashoura, a neighbourhood in central Beirut, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).
The blast sent smoke rising over the area shortly after Israel issued an evacuation warning for the site.
The strike was part of a wider wave of Israeli attacks across Lebanon on Wednesday that killed at least 20 people and wounded 24, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Health.
The raids extended from Beirut to southern and eastern regions, marking a major escalation in the broader conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
In Beirut alone, at least six people were killed and dozens injured in the airstrikes.
Journalists reported from Beirut that intense Israeli strikes hit multiple areas across the country overnight. Standing near a 15-storey building destroyed in one of the attacks, she said the lower floors had been targeted a week earlier, but the latest strike completely levelled the structure.
The Israeli military claimed Hezbollah had stored cash in the building.
“You can see the widespread damage across this whole neighbourhood,” Khodr said.
Israel’s military also announced what it described as limited ground operations in southern Lebanon.
It issued evacuation warnings for residents in four towns near the Zahrani River and the Tyre area, urging them to move north immediately.
Lebanon’s NNA reported additional strikes on Tyre and the nearby area of Al-Burj Al-Shamali in the early hours of the morning.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, a strong ally of Israel, expressed concern over the escalation, warning that a ground offensive in Lebanon would be a mistake and could further worsen an already severe humanitarian situation.
