Makinde Constitutes Judicial Panel To Probe Oriire School Kidnap

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has constituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of pupils and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

The state government said the commission will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify the security lapses that made the abduction possible and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan.

According to him, the panel, which will be inaugurated on Friday, has also been mandated to review the response of relevant security agencies and other authorities to the incident.

“The commission will examine the events leading to the kidnapping, assess the response of relevant authorities, and recommend measures to improve security and safeguard schools and communities across the state,” Oyelade said.

He noted that the establishment of the commission underscores Governor Makinde’s commitment to a thorough, transparent and independent investigation into the incident, with the aim of strengthening security around schools and vulnerable communities across Oyo State.

The pupils and teachers were abducted on May 15 from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

They were rescued after spending 56 days in captivity.
