Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury Set for Long-Awaited Heavyweight Showdown in Cardiff

British heavyweight boxing stars Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are set to finally settle years of speculation and negotiations when they meet in a highly anticipated all-British heavyweight showdown at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11, 2026.

The long-awaited contest will bring together two of Britain’s most prominent heavyweight fighters, with both men having secured victories in their respective warm-up bouts in July as they prepared for the much-anticipated clash.

Fury, 37, returned to action in Pattaya, Thailand, where he stopped 46-year-old Polish heavyweight Mariusz Wach in the seventh round. The bout was staged in front of approximately 1,500 spectators and was not broadcast on television.

Joshua, 36, also faced a difficult challenge in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, when he took on Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga.

The former world champion was knocked down twice during a dramatic opening round before recovering strongly to stop Prenga in the second round.

The first knockdown came just 20 seconds after the opening bell, putting Joshua under immediate pressure. However, he recovered his composure, fought back and eventually secured a stoppage victory.

The contest was particularly significant for Joshua as it marked his first fight since surviving a serious car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

Following his victory, Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, had expressed a preference for Wembley Stadium to host the long-awaited encounter with Fury.

However, the agreement with the Saudi organisers financing the event requires the fight to take place in Britain.

A move to the United States would reportedly require the existing agreement to be renegotiated, paving the way for Cardiff to emerge as the venue for the historic encounter.

Hearn has repeatedly stressed the importance of the Fury fight to Joshua’s career. Speaking after Pat Brown’s victory over John Hedges on September 19, Hearn said Joshua’s “whole career comes down to this” fight.

“There is a desperation to win this fight and this is why sport is the greatest. I’ve never wanted to win a fight so badly,” Hearn said.

The December 11 bout represents the culmination of years of negotiations, postponements and speculation surrounding a potential meeting between the two heavyweight stars.

Joshua and Fury have both held world heavyweight titles and have established themselves as two of the most recognisable British fighters of their generation.

Their careers have frequently been linked, with boxing fans and promoters repeatedly attempting to put together a contest between the pair.

The Cardiff showdown will now provide both fighters with the opportunity to finally share the ring and settle their long-running rivalry inside the ropes.

With the fight taking place in Britain and featuring two of the country’s biggest heavyweight names, the December 11 event is expected to attract significant attention from boxing fans around the world.
