The Kano State Government has rejected claims by Buba Galadima that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Department of State Services (DSS) are suppressing opposition voices, calling the allegations false, malicious, and politically motivated.
Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made the clarification during a press briefing on Friday, describing Galadima’s remarks as “outright false and politically contrived.”
“These claims are nothing more than a desperate attempt to malign the integrity of the governor and sow discord within Kano State,” he said.
Waiya noted that the accusations followed Governor Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Galadima’s removal as Chairman of the Board of Kano State Polytechnic, which he said was based solely on administrative performance, not political persecution.
The commissioner also dismissed suggestions that the government directed security agencies to harass political opponents.
“Any claim that Kano State controls or manipulates federal security institutions is incorrect and deliberately deceptive,” he said, emphasising that the DSS and other security agencies operate strictly within the law.
While reaffirming the administration’s openness to constructive criticism, Waiya warned against spreading false information capable of disturbing public peace.
“Freedom of expression does not extend to defamation, incitement, or deliberate falsehood,” he said.
He added that opposition figures continue to operate freely in the state and that media and civic activities remain unhindered, contrary to what he described as an alarmist narrative.
Waiya concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law, and peaceful coexistence, pledging continued support for security agencies in protecting citizens’ rights and maintaining law and order.
