Kalu made the disclosure on Tuesday during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has said the National Assembly committee handling the harmonisation of the Electoral Act amendment will meet today to conclude work on the bill, following ongoing deliberations between the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Kalu made the disclosure on Tuesday during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.
He said feedback from Nigerians on the proposed amendment was being considered and that the process remained on course.
According to him, the committee held an emergency sitting last week and scheduled another meeting for today after suspending other legislative activities to focus on the Electoral Act.
Kalu explained that lawmakers were initially expected to resume fully on the 24th, possibly for budget hearings, but decided to prioritise the harmonisation exercise.
The senator, who represents Abia North, said he is a member of the Joint Harmonisation Committee and had spent long hours at the National Assembly working on the bill.
He added that the harmonisation process had officially commenced and assured that Nigerians would hear from the committee soon.
The development comes more than a week after the Senate constituted a 12-member committee to interface with the House of Representatives to reconcile differences in the amendment.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced the composition of the committee during an emergency plenary session last Tuesday.
The amendment process followed controversy over lawmakers’ adoption of a flexible approach to the transmission of election results, with legislators citing technical challenges linked to network coverage.
The Senate approved electronic transmission of results but removed the requirement for real-time upload in Clause 60(3), thereby allowing manual collation as a backup in the event of technological failure.
This position differs from that of the House of Representatives, which retained the provision for real-time upload of results from polling units to the result viewing portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
