CAF Urges Members to Review FIFA’s Private Investor Plan

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has called on its member associations to examine FIFA’s proposal to sell minority stakes in a new company that would manage some of football’s biggest competitions, including the FIFA World Cup.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe is expected to meet with the CAF Executive Committee next week to assess the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative and its potential impact on football development.

FIFA recently announced plans to establish a commercial subsidiary to oversee major tournaments such as the World Cup and Club World Cup. Under the proposal, private investors would be allowed to acquire minority stakes in the company, with FIFA aiming to raise up to $4.2 billion.

If approved, FIFA’s 211 member associations could receive a one-time payment of $20 million in early 2027, while funding for the 2027–2030 cycle would increase significantly.

The proposal has sparked debate within the football community.

Several football bodies, including UEFA, have raised concerns about the growing commercialisation of the sport and the potential for conflicts of interest.

CAF said it would continue consulting with its member associations while supporting efforts to increase financial resources for the development and growth of football in Africa and around the world.
