The Rivers State House of Assembly has launched impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.
During Thursday’s plenary, broadcast live on Channels Television, Speaker Martins Amaewhule presided as Majority Leader Major Jack read the notice outlining allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Fubara.
Signed by 26 members, the notice claims Fubara’s actions violate the Nigerian Constitution. Amaewhule said the notice will be formally served to the governor within seven days.
Deputy Majority Leader Linda Stewart also read out a similar notice against Deputy Governor Oduh.
The development comes amid the ongoing political fallout between Governor Fubara and his predecessor and former political patron, Nyesom Wike, a conflict that has continued to polarise the state’s political scene.
