Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly abducted a soldier and other passengers in Borno.
The victims were said to be travelling in a commercial bus last Friday when the insurgents intercepted their vehicle along Damaturu/Maiduguri Road.
Sources told Journalists that the operation was carried out in the evening.
They said the terrorists in military fatigues blocked the highway and picked their victims based on their identity cards.
“On Friday evening, along Maiduguri/Damaturu Road, Boko Haram fighters blocked the highway for hours, searching for military personnel who usually travelled with commercial vehicles.
“Unfortunately, they saw one serving soldier and took him to an unknown destination with other passengers,” one of the sources said.
Meanwhile, efforts made to reach the army for comments were unsuccessful.
For over a decade, Nigeria has been locked in a brutal conflict with insurgent groups operating primarily in the country’s North East region.
The most prominent among them is Boko Haram, which emerged in the early 2000s but became violently active around 2009, launching a campaign of terror marked by bombings, mass abductions, and attacks on civilian and military targets.
