Speaking on Trust TV, El-Rufai said the party is committed to organising primaries that are free, fair, and transparent, giving all aspirants an equal chance to compete without pressure or being forced to step aside

Former Kaduna State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader, Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed that the party will not use zoning or any form of consensus in its upcoming presidential primary for the next general elections.
Speaking on Trust TV, El-Rufai said the party is committed to organising primaries that are free, fair, and transparent, giving all aspirants an equal chance to compete without pressure or being forced to step aside.
He added that the ADC is currently developing its manifesto and policy framework while engaging prospective candidates for the presidency, governorship, and other positions to strengthen internal cohesion before the primaries.
“At the top level, we are finalising our manifesto and platform. We are also bringing together all aspirants to agree on a process that will ensure free and fair contests,” El-Rufai explained.
He stressed that no candidate would be compelled to withdraw in favour of another, and no zoning arrangement will be implemented.
“There will be no zoning, no consensus, and no forcing anyone to step down. Every aspirant will have the opportunity to contest, and the winner will receive full support from the party,” he said.
El-Rufai also dismissed claims that the ADC lacks grassroots backing, pointing to the party’s growing influence across Nigeria.
“If you doubt ADC’s grassroots support, ask members of the National Assembly to visit their constituencies without relying on police or soldiers for protection,” he added.
