Zamfara Approves 95% Salary Hike for Health Workers

The Zamfara State Government has approved a 95 per cent increase in the salaries of health workers across the state as part of measures to improve staff welfare and strengthen healthcare delivery.

The new salary structure, which took effect from September 7, 2026, is expected to benefit health personnel working across various ministries, departments, agencies, boards and other government-owned health institutions in the state.

The state government said the revised remuneration was aligned with salary structures approved by the Federal Government for health-sector workers, particularly the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The Head of the Zamfara State Civil Service, Shehu Baraya, communicated the approval in a circular dated September 10, 2026, with reference number HS/Z/001/54/VOL.II.

The circular was addressed to key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries, as well as heads of ministries, departments, agencies, boards and commissions.

According to the state government, the decision followed the need to improve the welfare of health workers and create a more conducive working environment for personnel providing essential healthcare services to residents.

The government said better remuneration would help improve the morale and motivation of health workers, while also encouraging greater productivity, efficiency and commitment to their responsibilities.

It added that the salary review was part of broader efforts to strengthen the state’s health sector and ensure that health workers are adequately supported in the discharge of their duties.

While approving the increase, the government also urged health workers to reciprocate the improved remuneration with professionalism, dedication and a renewed commitment to public service.

Health personnel were directed to observe official working hours, maintain discipline and comply with relevant public service rules, regulations and established ethical standards.

The circular also contains revised CONHESS basic salary scales covering different grades and steps, alongside updated hazard allowances for clinical and non-clinical health workers.

Under the new hazard allowance structure, clinical health workers on salary grades 1 to 5 are entitled to ₦15,200, while non-clinical health workers within the same grades will receive ₦14,250.

For health workers on salary grades 6 to 12, the hazard allowance has been fixed at ₦30,400 for clinical personnel and ₦28,500 for their non-clinical counterparts.

Workers on salary grades 13 to 15 will receive ₦32,300 as hazard allowance if they are clinical health personnel, while non-clinical workers on the same grades are entitled to ₦30,400.

The government said the implementation of the revised salary structure was expected to strengthen staff welfare and encourage health workers to remain committed to providing quality services to residents.

The salary adjustment also comes amid continuing efforts by governments at different levels to improve the conditions of service for healthcare workers and strengthen the health sector through better remuneration and improved working conditions.

The Zamfara Government urged beneficiaries of the new salary structure to uphold the standards expected of public health personnel and contribute positively to the delivery of healthcare services across the state.
