Morocco booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a 1-0 victory over Algeria in Rabat on Thursday.
The breakthrough came in the 84th minute when Sanaa Mssoudy scored the only goal of the match.
After Algeria cleared a corner, the ball was sent back into the penalty area, where the unmarked winger controlled it before finishing past goalkeeper Chloe N’Gazi.
Morocco enjoyed most of the possession throughout the contest, but Algeria’s organised defence kept the hosts at bay for long periods before finally conceding late in the game.
The win moved Morocco to six points from two matches at the top of Group A. Algeria and Senegal have three points each, while Kenya remain without a point.
In the other Group A fixture, Senegal recorded a 1-0 victory over Kenya courtesy of a first-half goal from Seynabou Mbengue.
The final round of group matches will be played on Monday, with Morocco facing Senegal and Algeria taking on Kenya.
