The latest escalation occurred on Monday and comes amid a fragile ceasefire between the two neighbours, brokered by China in April after months of border clashes that left hundreds dead and injured

Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government has accused Pakistan of killing three civilians in a cross-border attack, an incident Kabul has described as a “war crime.”
The latest escalation occurred on Monday and comes amid a fragile ceasefire between the two neighbours, brokered by China in April after months of border clashes that left hundreds dead and injured.
Afghan deputy government spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said on X that 14 other people were wounded in the strike.
He alleged that Pakistani forces deliberately targeted civilian areas, including homes, schools, a health facility, and mosques in Dangam district of Kunar province along the border.
Pakistan has rejected the accusations. Its Ministry of Information and Broadcasting suggested that Kabul may have staged the destruction, claiming images released by Afghanistan showed damage inconsistent with artillery fire.
Islamabad described the reports as part of a “propaganda campaign” aimed at discrediting Pakistan, referencing earlier cross-border attacks in March and April that it blamed on Afghanistan and which killed nine people.
Tensions have further intensified following a separate incident in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Afghan border, where one person was killed on Monday night.
Security forces reportedly thwarted a suicide attack at a checkpoint.
Authorities said several others were injured when personnel opened fire on a vehicle carrying explosives heading toward a military post.
The vehicle detonated before reaching its target.
