Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed that he successfully underwent treatment for early-stage prostate cancer after a small tumour was detected during a routine medical checkup.

The disclosure was made in his annual medical report released on Friday.

Netanyahu also addressed the issue on social media, explaining that doctors discovered and treated the tumour during the checkup, but the information was not made public at the time.

The 76-year-old leader said he chose to delay the announcement by two months so it would not coincide with the peak of the conflict with Iran, citing concerns about potential misinformation and propaganda against Israel.

Netanyahu noted that he had previously undergone surgery for an enlarged but non-cancerous prostate in 2024 and has since been under regular medical supervision.

The tumour was found during one of these follow-up examinations.
According to the report, which otherwise described him as being in good health, he received radiation therapy for the cancer. However, neither the report nor Netanyahu specified exactly when the treatment took place.

Aharon Popovtser, head of the oncology unit at Hadassah Hospital, said the cancer was detected at an early stage, adding that prostate cancer is relatively common in men of Netanyahu’s age.

He also stated that test results indicate the disease has been successfully treated.

Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, had faced speculation about his health earlier during the US-Israel tensions with Iran, fueled by false, AI-generated images circulating online that wrongly claimed he had died.
