The checkpoint was originally established to help maintain law and order along the highway and nearby communities

Women from Gashish community on Monday dismantled a security checkpoint operated by Operation Enduring Peace near Kassa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The checkpoint was originally established to help maintain law and order along the highway and nearby communities.
However, the protesters said their action stemmed from frustration over what they described as ongoing attacks against their people.
The demonstration followed Sunday night assaults on the Hurum-Gashish community, where gunmen killed four people and injured five others. In a separate attack on the Bachi community, two people were killed and several others wounded.
The women said residents continued to suffer repeated violence despite the presence of security personnel.
“We are tired of burying our children and husbands. The soldiers are here, yet we are still dying. If they cannot protect us, they should leave,” said Mercy Dachung.
Another protester, Nancy Gyang, said security operatives often arrive after attacks have already taken place. “We removed the checkpoint because it has not stopped the killings,” she said.
A community leader, Chundung Bot, said residents had lost confidence in the security presence and urged the government and relevant authorities to take urgent action to restore peace.
