Donald Trump has announced that the United States will extend its ceasefire with Iran, saying the military will delay a planned attack to give Tehran more time to present a proposal to end the conflict.

The decision, made on Tuesday, followed a request from Pakistani mediators, according to Trump.

The truce had been due to expire on Wednesday.
“I have directed our military to maintain the blockade while remaining fully prepared, and to extend the ceasefire until a proposal is submitted and discussions are concluded, one way or another,” Trump said in a social media post.

He did not set a deadline, suggesting the extension could remain open-ended from the US side.

Iran did not immediately respond. The semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran’s position would be announced later.

The move marks another sudden shift from the Trump administration.

Just hours earlier, Trump had opposed extending the truce and warned that time was running out before the US launched a major attack on Iran’s infrastructure.

The change came amid strong criticism from Iranian officials over the US naval blockade of their ports, raising doubts about their participation in planned talks on Wednesday.

Following the announcement, Shehbaz Sharif thanked Trump for extending the ceasefire and said Pakistan would continue to push for a negotiated resolution to the conflict.
