The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has disowned a viral video circulating online, describing it as false, malicious and not linked to the Commission.
The Commission said the visuals, names and claims in the video were fabricated, adding that some elements were generated using artificial intelligence to mislead the public.
In a statement issued by J. Okor Odey, Head of Media and Public Communication, the ICPC clarified that it did not release any report or statement backing the content of the video.
It specifically denied allegations suggesting it was investigating any Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), group of lawyers or judicial officers over a purported N50 billion bribery case.
“The ICPC is not conducting any investigation into any individual, SAN, group of lawyers or judicial officer in respect of the fictitious N50 billion bribe mentioned in the video,” the statement said.
The Commission added that no such case, transaction or investigation exists in its records, stressing that the claims were entirely false and should be disregarded by the public.
It reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out credible, evidence-based investigations in line with its statutory mandate.
The ICPC also warned those behind the creation and circulation of the video to desist immediately.
It said it would not allow its name and institutional integrity to be used to spread disinformation under the guise of content creation.
The Commission further stated that individuals responsible for producing or sharing the video would face legal consequences once identified.
