Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the first week of June 2026 in his ongoing corruption trial.
The matter is before Justice Darius Khobo, who presided over proceedings on Tuesday.
The case was instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai is facing multiple charges bordering on alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.
He has, however, denied all allegations against him.
The adjournment effectively extends the timeline of the legal battle, which has continued to draw public attention.
In a related development, a Federal High Court had last week granted El-Rufai bail in a separate case also filed by the ICPC.
That ruling marked a significant turn in the wider legal proceedings involving the former governor.
Court sources said the proceedings were delayed following the filing of an amended nine-count charge by the prosecution.
The amended charge reportedly altered the structure of the case and removed an earlier co-defendant, Amadu Sule, leaving El-Rufai as the sole accused.
His counsel, Ubong Akpan (SAN), said the defence was taken by surprise by the development.
He stated that the new charges were served on the defence in court on the same day, making it difficult for the case to proceed.
The ICPC allegations include claims that about N11 billion was released to an unregistered entity for a light rail project that was never executed.
The commission also alleged that El-Rufai approved and received about N289.8 million as severance allowance above the legal limit.
It further accused him of mismanaging over $1.08 million from a World Bank loan.
Other allegations include the award of a N4.6 billion CCTV contract in Kaduna metropolis in breach of procurement laws.
The ICPC also alleged a conspiracy to bribe federal investigators.
In addition, El-Rufai is facing a separate 10-count charge before a Federal High Court bordering on money laundering and alleged conversion of public property.
With the latest adjournment, the bail application hearing is now expected to resume in June 2026 as both parties prepare for the next stage of proceedings.
