Koiki described the allegations as baseless, misleading, and entirely lacking in credible evidence, urging Sowore to stop what he termed a pattern of politically motivated attacks against the Yoruba Nation movement

In a strongly worded press response, Olayomi Koiki has firmly rejected and debunked allegations made by Omoyele Sowore, who recently claimed that the Yoruba Nation struggle led by Sunday Adeyemo Igboho was secretly funded by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to undermine the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.
Koiki described the allegations as baseless, misleading, and entirely lacking in credible evidence, urging Sowore to stop what he termed a pattern of politically motivated attacks against the Yoruba Nation movement
Koiki challenged Sowore to substantiate his claims with clear and verifiable proof, emphasizing that such serious allegations cannot be built on assumptions or media narratives.
According. To him, “As someone who presents himself as an investigative journalist, Sowore has a responsibility to provide evidence, not mere accusations. We demand proof nothing less.”
He further stressed that the Yoruba people, both at home and in the diaspora, are demanding the same level of evidence-based accountability that Sowore often claims to uphold on his SaharaReporters platform.
Reflecting on Sowore’s past political engagements, Koiki recalled his visit to London during his campaign period. According to him, many Yoruba indigenes quickly distanced themselves after observing inconsistencies in his message.
Koiki stated that the Yoruba community in London recognized elements of deception and political self-interest, which led to a decline in support for Sowore’s movement at the time.
He further questioned: “During your campaign appearances, including media engagements such as interviews on Star Radio UK-based platforms, what tangible support did you offer the Yoruba cause you now claim to defend?”
Koiki strongly refuted Sowore’s claim that the Yoruba Nation agitation is not organic, describing such a statement as both misleading and dismissive of the genuine grievances of the people.
He explained that the movement is rooted in long-standing issues including insecurity, marginalization, and the protection of lives and property in Yorubaland not political manipulation of Omoyele Sowore
“The Yoruba Nation struggle is a people-driven movement. It is not built on political ambition or personal interest, unlike the so-called revolutionary agenda constantly being pushed by Sowore,” Koiki said.
Koiki also revealed that Sowore had recently attempted to contact Sunday Igboho while in Ibadan, but his calls were deliberately not answered.
According to Koiki, there were concerns that such communication could be recorded and misrepresented for political or media purposes, further reinforcing doubts about Sowore’s intentions.
Koiki pointed out what he described as a contradiction in Sowore’s stance, noting that many communities across the South-West—including areas in Ondo State—continue to seek practical security support, an area where Igboho has remained active.
He argued that rather than discrediting a movement focused on protecting lives, efforts should be directed toward addressing the region’s pressing security challenges.
Defending Igboho’s Integrity
Reaffirming his position, Koiki stated that he would not remain silent while attempts are made to tarnish the reputation of Sunday Igboho.
“Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho is a man of integrity, courage, and deep commitment to his people. His name cannot be destroyed by unfounded allegations.”
Clarifying the Origins of the Movement
Koiki further clarified that Igboho did not originate the Yoruba Nation agitation but became prominent through his response to critical issues affecting the region.
He referenced a moment during a broadcast discussion on the death of Tolulope Arotile, where Igboho called in to express concerns—highlighting his growing involvement in issues affecting Yoruba people.
Final Challenge to Sowore
Olayomi Koiki issued a direct and firm challenge: “If Sowore insists on these allegations, let him provide verifiable, evidence-based proof that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu funded Sunday Igboho to destabilize the Buhari administration. Otherwise, such claims should be withdrawn.”
He warned that continued propagation of unverified claims would only further damage credibility and distract from real issues affecting the people.
The response by Olayomi Koiki underscores a growing demand for truth, accountability, and responsible public discourse, especially on matters that touch on ethnic identity, political struggle, and national security.
As tensions around narratives continue to rise, one thing remains clear:
claims of this magnitude must be backed by facts not speculation.
