The UN Security Council must “take all necessary measures” to protect maritime routes and ensure uninterrupted navigation through key waterways in the region, al-Budaiwi said.
He added that the six GCC countries Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates should be included in any negotiations or agreements with Iran to strengthen regional security and prevent further escalation or a repeat of such attacks.
“The GCC stresses the urgent need to immediately stop these attacks, restore security, stability, and calm in the region, and ensure the safety of air and sea travel, global supply chains, and energy markets,” al-Budaiwi said.
Iran has carried out daily missile and drone strikes across the Middle East, including in Gulf Arab countries, since the United States and Israel launched a war against it on February 28.
Although Iranian officials say the attacks are in self-defence and target US- and Israeli-linked sites, they have also hit civilian locations across the Gulf, including key energy facilities.
Iran has also effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz a vital waterway through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas passes causing global energy prices to surge.
