Gwarzo made this known in a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, and addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf

Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has said he resigned from office to protect political stability and allow the state government to function without distractions.

Gwarzo made this known in a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, and addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He described his decision as voluntary and taken in good faith, saying it became necessary in view of the political situation in the state.

According to him, the step followed extensive consultations and careful thought.

He said he chose to leave office in order to avoid actions that could further deepen tensions within government.

“I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the state to move forward without undue distractions,” he said.

Gwarzo also insisted that his resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt.

He said the move was made purely in the interest of public service and to preserve democratic institutions.

“This resignation is made voluntarily and should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing, but a decision in the interest of public service,” he stated.

The former deputy governor added that his resignation was in line with Section 306(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which allows public office holders to resign.

He also thanked the people of Kano State and key stakeholders for the support he enjoyed during his time in office.

Among those he appreciated were Governor Yusuf, members of the State Executive Council, the Kano State House of Assembly, his political party and traditional institutions.

His resignation comes amid mounting political tension in Kano, especially following moves by the State House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against him.

The development has added to the political uncertainty in the state, although Gwarzo maintained that his decision was aimed at preserving peace and ensuring smooth governance.
