Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday, Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, said Obi’s political history shows a consistent pattern of internal party conflicts

Edo State Government has labelled former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as a disruptive influence in the state’s political scene, claiming his involvement often sparks crises.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday, Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, said Obi’s political history shows a consistent pattern of internal party conflicts.
Afegbua made the comments in response to reports of an alleged assassination attempt on Obi, noting that his previous visits to Edo State were often followed by political unrest.
He added that the Labour Party experienced unresolved crises during Obi’s time in the party, and that his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came without demonstrating the ability to manage internal disputes.
The Commissioner warned that Edo State should not be drawn into what he described as Obi’s internal party conflicts, stressing that any fallout from his political activities should not be blamed on the state.
He said, “Don’t forget that Peter Obi came the first time to Edo and there was crisis. He came the second time, there was crisis.
“Within the Labour Party, they are a party of crisis, and he exited without resolving it, which should have defined his leadership credentials.
“Now he has joined ADC, a party of disgruntled elements seeking a platform for their political ambitions. Please don’t come and pollute the atmosphere of Edo in such a manner that whatever happens within your party, you will not want to wear us the crown.
“Peter Obi is a problem for Edo politics because any party he belongs to experiences crisis. Olumide Apata just alluded to it. You cannot be in a party, create factions and disputes, fail to resolve them, and then export the crisis to another party like ADC, whose members mostly come from PDP and Labour Party.”
