The Bayelsa State Police Command has apprehended Pentecost Elijah following an improvised explosive device (IED) detonation at the State Secretariat Complex on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Musa Mohammed said the explosion occurred at about 6:00 a.m. but was quickly brought under control by the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Unit, with support from the Special Drone Unit and other tactical teams.

Mohammed explained, “Upon arrival, our Explosive Ordinance Unit contained the blast. The area was secured, and an unexploded IED was recovered and neutralised. Thankfully, no lives were lost, and there was no damage to property.”

He added that 60-year-old Pentecost Elijah, from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw LGA, was arrested at the scene. He is currently in police custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will face charges in court.
