Social media commentator Mahdi Shehu has criticised Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, over her claim that the country is gaining global recognition despite ongoing security and economic challenges, describing the statement as false and misleading.
Shehu reacted in a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday, arguing that Nigeria is not enjoying international respect but is instead being perceived negatively.
“It is a lie. Maybe Remi is mistaking Nigeria for Niger Republic,” he said.
He further stated that Nigeria is currently being treated as a laughing stock, citing what he described as clear indicators of national decline.
“The country is facing decay, hunger, starvation, extremely high unemployment and visible symptoms of revolt,” he said.
Shehu also directed personal criticism at the First Lady, urging her to reassess her views about the state of the nation.
“Pastor Remi should go back to the drawing table and get more educated on the dangers facing Nigeria under her globetrotting husband,” he stated.
Oluremi Tinubu had reportedly spoken about Nigeria’s growing global recognition during an appearance on Fox News in the United States, after an acknowledgment by U.S. President Donald Trump at the 74th U.S. National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.
