The suspects were identified as Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, both residents of the Tsamiya (Breget) area of the state.

Two suspects have been arrested by the Nigerian Correctional Service in Kano State for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs to inmates at the Nomansland court complex in Kano.

The suspects were identified as Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, both residents of the Tsamiya (Breget) area of the state.

Confirming the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, CSC Musbahu Kofar-Nassarawa, said the duo was apprehended by officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse.

He said the suspects were caught while attempting to throw Indian hemp and other illicit substances to inmates at the court premises.

“The suspects were arrested by NCoS officials attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse, Kano, while trying to throw Indian hemp to inmates at the court premises,” he said.

The command warned members of the public against intermingling with inmates, particularly during transportation to and from court, describing such acts as a serious security breach punishable under the law.

“The NCoS is committed to rehabilitating and reforming inmates and will not tolerate attempts to undermine this mandate,” the statement said.

Kofar-Nassarawa disclosed that the Controller of Corrections in Kano State, Ado Inuwa, had directed the Legal and Intelligence Units to hand over the suspects and the recovered substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for investigation and prosecution.

He added that the command reaffirmed its commitment to maximum security and zero tolerance for drug-related activities within custodial centres and court premises across the state.

The public was also urged to cooperate with security agencies to help sustain law and order.
