Sri Lanka is urgently seeking international aid after Cyclone Ditwah left a trail of destruction, killing 123 people and leaving 130 others missing.

The extreme weather has ravaged the country, destroying nearly 15,000 homes and displacing almost 44,000 people who are now in state-run shelters .

The Disaster Management Centre says the situation is dire, with many areas still inaccessible due to flooding and landslides. India has already stepped in to help, launching “Operation Sagar Bandhu” to provide relief and rescue support.

The Indian Air Force has sent aircraft with essential supplies, and naval ships are also on the scene.

The government has declared a state of emergency, and authorities are working to restore power and communication networks. The death toll is expected to rise as more areas are reached.

Also the government has made an appeal for international assistance, urging Sri Lankans living abroad to contribute financially to aid the approximately 500,000 people impacted.
