The Swedish government is cracking down on the online sale of childlike sex dolls after reports of such sales surfaced in the country. Minister for Social Services, Camilla Waltersson Grönvall, expressed her shock and concern, stating that seeing images of these dolls is heartbreaking for parents.
The government aims to ensure these products are no longer sold or bought anywhere, and they’re working with e-commerce companies and child protection groups to make that happen .
In a meeting with online vendors and government agencies, Grönvall emphasized that the government will closely monitor the situation and take further action if necessary, including potential legislation. ChildX, a child protection group, had previously filed a police report against Amazon and other e-commerce platforms for selling these dolls, leading to the removal of the listings.
The Swedish government’s move is part of a broader effort to protect children from violence and online abuse. France has also taken similar action, suspending access to the Shein online marketplace due to the sale of child-like sex dolls and other illicit products.
