Ukraine has received additional American-made Patriot air defense systems to bolster its defenses against Russia’s relentless attacks, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Sunday.

This development comes as Russia launched another nighttime drone strike, killing a man and injuring five family members, including two children.

The Patriot systems are Ukraine’s most effective defense against Russian missiles, and Zelenskyy has been urging Western partners to provide more.

However, production limitations and stockpile maintenance have slowed deliveries.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of these systems, stating, “More Patriots are now in Ukraine and being put into operation”. This boost in air defense capabilities is crucial, given Russia’s escalating attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and civilian areas, aiming to disrupt industrial production and deny basic necessities like heat and water.

Russian drones attacked a house in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, killing a man and injuring five family members, while two women were injured in a separate attack.

Regional head Oleh Hryhorov condemned the deliberate targeting of civilians, stating, “The Russians cynically targeted people deliberately, at night, while they were sleeping”.

Additionally, Russian missiles sparked a fire at a business in the central Dnipro region, injuring one man.

Russian drones have attacked energy infrastructure in Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv region, causing power outages in 12 settlements.

The attack also damaged a supermarket, a car service station, and residential buildings, but fortunately, there were no reported casualties.

This is part of Russia’s ongoing campaign to target Ukraine’s energy grid, leaving millions without power as winter approaches.
