Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Benin Zonal Directorate have arrested 35 individuals suspected of internet fraud at various locations across Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

The arrests followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to internet-related crimes, according to a statement posted on the commission’s official X account.

During the operation, the EFCC recovered nine luxury vehicles, several smartphones, and laptops believed to have been used in the fraudulent activities.

The EFCC stated, “On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC arrested 35 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations within Benin City. The arrests were based on credible intelligence regarding their involvement in internet-related fraud. Items recovered include nine exotic cars, smartphones, and laptops. The suspects will be charged to court once investigations are complete.”
