A middle-aged man has reportedly set his house on fire in Asa Umudim community, Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State, allegedly over suspicions that his wife was having extra-marital affairs.

One of his daughters was burnt to death in the incident.

His wife and two other children sustained severe burns and are currently battling for survival in hospital.

The suspect was said to have poured an inflammable substance around the house before igniting it.

He allegedly accused his wife of infidelity and frequently answering calls from men he suspected to be her lovers.

While the daughter died in the inferno, doctors are fighting to save the lives of the mother and her two surviving children.

A source in the community said enraged residents nearly lynched the suspect before Police arrived and took him into custody.

The remains of the deceased daughter have been deposited in the mortuary.

The Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, the Police are aware. Investigation is ongoing,” she said.
