Former United States President, Joe Biden, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
According to a statement released by his office on Sunday, the 82-year-old was diagnosed on Friday after doctors discovered a prostate nodule.
He was taken in for examination following complaints of “increasing urinary symptoms.”
The statement noted, “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”
It added that the former president and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his physicians.
Biden’s age and health had raised concerns during his presidency and ultimately led to the collapse of his second-term bid.
He withdrew from the re-election race following a poor performance in the first presidential debate held in June 2024.
The Democratic Party later named then-Vice President Kamala Harris as its candidate for the November 2024 presidential election, which she lost to Donald Trump.
