A female food vendor in Haiti has reportedly killed 40 gang members by poisoning their meal, in an act of vengeance for the murder of her family members.

Local media said the unnamed woman, who was well-known in the Kenscoff district of Port-au-Prince, prepared a popular local delicacy and laced it with a deadly chemical before offering it to members of the notorious ‘Viv Ansanm’ gang.

The group is allegedly linked to feared ex-policeman and gang leader, Jimmy Cherizier, also known as ‘Barbecue’.

Reports indicate the woman, who had long operated a respected food stall, approached the gang under the guise of a grateful resident appreciative of their so-called protection and offered them free meals.

Unbeknownst to the gangsters, the food had been mixed with industrial insecticide. Minutes after eating, the victims began vomiting and collapsing from intense stomach pain. All 40 reportedly died before medical help arrived.

Sources said the woman lost multiple relatives to the gang’s violence and had spent time carefully planning her revenge.

After the poisoning, she fled her home in Kenscoff — a decision that likely saved her life, as the gang retaliated by burning down her house. She later surrendered to the police and confessed, insisting she acted alone and was motivated by grief and anger.

Haitian authorities are yet to comment on whether she will face prosecution.

Public opinion remains divided. While some view her as a courageous symbol of resistance against terror, others warn against celebrating vigilante justice.

Haiti continues to battle rampant gang violence, with armed groups holding sway over large areas of the capital and routinely carrying out abductions, extortion, and killings.
